saul leiter
Salut Leiter was a photographer and painter who lived in New York city. He is well known for his early colour photographs of New York and his style is unique in the way that he used a particular type of film to create photographs. He used a film called Kodachrome and usually used it past its use by date which saturated the colours a lot more and made the photographs look more like paintings. Not only his use of film made his style so noticeable but Leiter always shot through different transparencies often fogged up from the cold winters of New York. This effect created a whole new dimension to the photographs and took a normal street photograph to a whole new level. Below is my personal response to Saul Leiters work.

artist link-erwin blumenfeld
The images above are the photographs by American photographer Erwin Bloomfeld. Bloomfeld was know mostly for his fashion photography works. Erwin liked to experiment with distortion in both the darkroom and during the photographic process. Above we can see a figure in red being distorted by some sort of transparent object, perhaps a piece of glass. The texture of the glass allows the subject to look distorted and broken up when behind it. It is obvious Bloomfeld purposely places the model in red so that it shines through the glass more obviously. These pictures were taken from one of his moving images, when looking at the film, the subject is shown moving which gives a nice effect.
darkroom abstraction
For this task we printed some images onto acetate so that we could enable ourselves to manipulate these images in the darkroom and make proper prints. We used similar techniques that we experimented with when making the photograms at the beginning of the year. The image on the far left was an experimentation with a paint brush and developer. Using the paint brush I painted the Developer onto the paper only to reveal certain parts of the image. I also splattered it on to the paper in some areas. For the image in the middle I used double exposure.

Personal development
For my personal development I wanted to explore image manipulation in both the darkroom using different techniques and also by cutting and altering the image.
